About Rio's Refuge
We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit equine rescue commited to saving horses from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and the horrors of the nation's horse slaughter pipeline. Our mission is more than rescue – it is about disrupting the industry and creating a future where horses are treated with dignity and compassion. Our organization provides sanctuary, rehabilitiation, training, and adoption services to give these horses a safe and secure home for life.
Rio's Refuge leads with heart and operates with transparency. Every life we save, the contributions we receive, and and the choices we make are shared with our community. Trust builds change, and change saves lives. Together, we can write them a new story.

Rescue Operations
We actively rescue horses from America's slaughter pipeline and take in owner surrenders, providing them with a safe environment and the immediate attention and care they need.
Rehabilitation Programs
Our rehabilitation programs focus on the physical and emotional recovery of rescued horses which set them up for success in their next chapter.
We also will be launching a human-horse therapy program for individuals with past trauma and/or special needs. More informaiton coming soon.
Adoption and Sanctuary
We work to find forever, loving homes for rehabilitated horses, ensuring they have a brighter future. Additionally, we provide permanent sanctuary for those with special needs or necessary retirement.
Community Education
We provide educational resources to promote awareness of the slaughter pipeline and horse trade, as well as an understanding of equine welfare.
